WELCOME!

The Concussion Centre is one of Canada's foremost point of care in healing concussion symptoms. We have great success in getting people back to their normal daily lives by improving sensitivity to light, ability to focus, and overall cognitive function. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is the modality recognized in this field, worldwide.

HBOT

HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY IS A MEDICAL TREATMENT WHICH ENHANCES THE BODY'S NATURAL HEALING PROCESSES BY INHALATION OF 100% OXYGEN IN A TOTAL BODY CHAMBER, WHERE ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE IS INCREASED AND CONTROLLED. IT IS USED FOR A WIDE VARIETY OF TREATMENTS USUALLY AS PART OF AN OVERALL MEDCIAL CARE PLAN.

UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES, OXYGEN IS TRANSPORTED THROUGHOUT THE BODY ONLY BY RED BLOOD CELLS. WITH HBOT, OXYGEN IS DISSOLVED INTO ALL OF THE BODY'S FLUIDS, THE PLASMA, THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM FLUIDS, THE LYMPH, AND THE BONE AND CAN BE CARRIED TO AREAS WHERE CIRCULATION IS DIMINISHED OR BLOCKED.

IN THIS WAY, EXTRA OXYGEN CAN REACH ALL OF THE DAMAGED TISSUES AND THE BODY CAN SUPPORT ITS OWN HEALING PROCESS. THE INCREASED OXYGEN GREATLY ENHANCES THE ABILITY OF WHITE BLOOD CELLS TO KILL BACTERIA, REDUCES SWELLING AND ALLOWS NEW BLOOD VESSELS TO GROW MORE RAPIDLY.

IT IS A SIMPLE, NON-INVASIVE TREATMENT.

TBI

TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY & POST-CONCUSSION SYNDROME (TBI/PCS), ALSO KNOWN AS INTRACRANIAL INJURY, OCCURS WHEN AS EXTERNAL FORCE TRAUMATICALLY INJURES THE BRAIN. TBI CAN BE CLASSIFIED BASED ON SEVERITY, MECHANISM (CLOSED OR PENETRATING HEAD INJURY), OR OTHER FEATURES (E.G. OCCURRING IN A SPECIFIC LOCATION OR OVER A WIDESPREAD AREA). HEAD INJURY USUALLY REFERS TO TBI, BUT IS A BROADER CATEGORY BECAUSE IT CAN INVOLVE DAMAGE TO STRUCTURES OTHER THAN THE BRAIN, SUCH AS THE SCALP AND SKULL.

TBI IS A MAJOR CAUSE OF DEATH AND DISABILITY WORLDWIDE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS. CASES INCLUDE FALLS, VEHICLE ACCIDENTS, AND VIOLENCE. BRAIN TRAUMA CAN BE CAUSED BY A DIRECT IMPACT OR BY ACCELERATION ALONE. IN ADDITION TO THE DAMAGE CAUSED AT THE MOMENT OF INJURY, BRAIN TRAUMA CAUSES SECONDARY INJURY, A VARIETY OF EVENTS THAT TAKE PLACE IN THE MINUTES AND DAYS FOLLOWING THE INJURY. THESE PROCESSES, WHICH INCLUDE ALTERATIONS IN THE CEREBRAL BLOOD FLOW AND THE PRESSURE WITHIN THE SKULL, CONTRIBUTE SUBSTANTIALLY TO THE DAMAGE FROM THE INITIAL INJURY.
